"Just shy of its projected Halloween date, Johannesburg-based experimental artist Her Stems Spiral releases sci-fi / horror delight 'Sleep as a Form of Torture', which in just over 5 minutes in length could easily be their most deeply abrasive yet sincere piece of work to date. Coincidentally, 'Sleep as a Form of Torture' marks the very first time that Shannon of Her Stems Spiral has ever created album artwork using AI-generated technology.

'Sleep as a Form of Torture' EP feels like a short albeit claustrophic fever dream; a dusk-lit stroll amidst rusted and diseased cityscapes - bringing to mind twisted imagery from disturbing classic post-apocalyptic works such as Danny Boyle's '28 Days Later', to timeless survival-horror video games of the early 2000s' like Silent Hill & Project Zero etc, lending even further inspiration to Her Stems Spiral's already seasoned pallette of all things macabre and mysterious".
